Here are the highlights:
The grinding process exceeded 21 million tons, the highest in Tereos’ history.
New themes have been incorporated as an integral part of Tereos’ ESG strategy: community engagement, local development and diversity, inclusion and equity.
We have achieved significant results that reinforce our commitment to sustainable development, such as a 26% increase in the volume of certified sugarcane, an increase in the application of localized vinasse and an 11.3% reduction in the rate of work-related injuries compared to the previous period.
To better represent Tereos’ unique characteristics and to enhance the organizational culture throughout our worldwide activities, we set a new purpose:
Also, we have updated our values to better align with our operational practices:
Boldness: coming up with solutions and taking action to face current and future challenges.
Pragmatism: acting with promptness, simplicity, efficiency, and common sense, focusing on concrete actions.
Collaboration: displaying team spirit, reciprocity, and trust, paying attention to shared challenges, and finding solutions.
Performance: striving for excellence, acting with discipline and perseverance to fulfill our commitments.
We are the first company in the Brazilian sugar-energy industry to commit to the highest level of the SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative): neutralizing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the entire value chain, from the field to end products, by 2050.
To achieve it, we have set intermediate targets up to 2032/2033, with an investment of 800 million euros in 78 major projects at 16 Tereos industrial units worldwide.
We have already invested in initiatives in Brazil to reinforce this commitment and help us on our journey towards a more sustainable future.
– Biogas and biomethane: In 2022, we launched our first biogas plant in Olímpia and have been testing the use of biomethane to fuel sugarcane trucks. The goal is to have 100% of these trucks running on biomethane instead of diesel by 2030.
– Reduced diesel consumption: we renewed our truck fleet with Euro 6 technology vehicles; we opted for S-10 additive diesel; and we optimized operations through real-time monitoring.
Sustainable agricultural practices: we expanded the use of organic fertilizers, reducing the use of nitrogen-based mineral fertilizers, and reduced the use of limestone and gypsum.
– We have created the MASTER program (Meio Ambiente e Sustentabilidade Tereos – Tereos Environment and Sustainability) to streamline processes and ensure informed decision-making in socio-environmental management.
– We have expanded our operations in the power industry, contributing to the diversification of the energy matrix.
– We have taken steps to protect biodiversity, such as providing training for apiarists, raising awareness about the importance of bees, implementing reforestation programs, and restoring springs near our units.
– We also conduct annual firefighting campaigns. During the 2023/2024 harvest, we organized awareness campaigns in schools, in the communities where we operate, and for Tereos drivers, reaching more than 8,500 people.
People are an essential part of our business, and we are dedicated to creating a supportive and healthy environment for our collaborators.
In the 2023/2024 crop year, we made significant progress through various initiatives including:
In the social sphere, we invest in projects aimed at making a positive impact on communities, furthering Tereos’ commitment to local well-being and development.
